Getting Started
The majority of our courses are nationally accredited, making them transportable and recognised Australia wide. Accredited courses are identified as such on our website on the course information page.
Short courses are not nationally accredited, but focus on developing key skill areas in the workplace.
Our courses that are not accredited are taught by highly experienced trainers that work in the industry, and the courses provide a high-quality, industry-focused, competency-based experience aimed at developing your professional skills.
Our experienced Future Students team will discuss your current work role, your workplace experience and your reasons for studying. This will allow us to recommend the right course level and study area for you.
UNE Partnerships does not use terms or semesters so you can start at any time. As soon as you are enrolled you can access the online student portal that contains all of your course materials.
If you enrolled in a workshop or tutorial course, you will generally start close to the date of the first class.
Getting through
Every course has a maximum period of candidature. Details can be found on our website under the specific course you are interested in. For example, Certificate IV courses run between 12 to 24 months, a Diploma typically takes 12 to 24 months, and an Advanced Diploma takes up to 18 months.
Courses are designed for you to be able to work at your own pace. On enrolment a set of due dates are provided for your assessments which you can change depending on your circumstances.
An extension to your completion date may be possible in special circumstances.
Some students succeed by spending an hour or two studying several days per week whilst others devote a larger block of time, on a set day each week.
It all depends on your personal situation, but establishing a regular study pattern is an essential part of your study experience. Our study guide (provided with every course), and the support of our student services team, will assist you in setting up an effective approach which suits your needs and situation.
Every student has access to an academic staff member, usually the course facilitator. This person is available to answer specific questions about course content or assessment tasks.
Additionally, our helpful student services team will be in regular contact with you while you are studying. They will offer guidance, support and encouragement to help you achieve the best results.
Our courses often have pathways to further qualifications, and can even provide credit into higher qualifications such as University degrees, depending on circumstances. You will need to contact the institution that provides the degree to clarify what advanced standing you may be entitled to. There are many ways to further your education, such as bridging programs which allow upgrades, and credit awarded for relevant training and/or experience using either ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ or ‘Direct Credit Transfer’. You can read more about prior learning and credit on our Prior Learning page. Conditions apply, so please talk to us about the specifics of your situation.
Finances
We can access a number of Government funding options, depending on availability.
Specific conditions apply, such as eligibility criteria and the level and timing of subsidy payments. Traineeships require that you work through an Australian Apprenticeships Centre (AAC). You can find a list of centres here.

Our course fee is all inclusive and there are no hidden extras. Some courses may suggest an additional textbook, where purchase is optional.
Some additional services (such as extensions of time to complete study and replacement certificates) may attract a fee, which is disclosed before you commit to purchase. These fees are only for special or extended services.
We advise that you check with your own tax professional for specific advice. Generally, if the study relates directly to your current employment, course fees are tax deductible. Where your employer pays all or part of the fee, your employer may be able to claim a tax deduction.
